WHAT IS FAMILY MEDIATION?

Family mediation is an alternative way for separating couples to resolve issues relating to children/property and finance without resorting to court.
Family mediation is not Counselling, Therapy or a route to reconciliation. Please note I can give you both legal information but not legal advice.

WHY CHOOSE MEDIATION?

Less Stressful

Using the courts can be long drawn out, expensive and stressful

Respected Approach

Courts, the judiciary and the legal profession support mediation as an alternative dispute mechanism in family cases.

Costs Far Less

A fully contested financial remedy case can cost £20,000 each. Costs vary from case to case but can be 20% of this to reach agreed proposals in mediation.

Workable Solutions

Research shows that people who resolve their problems on separation themselves, with help of mediator, are more likely to reach proposals they can live with and which will work.

HOW TO CHECK OUT THE MEDIATION OPTION?

The law requires any party seeking to make an application to court on a family matter to have first attended a Mediation Intake and Assessment Meeting known as a MIAM. This is the first step for anyone considering mediation. You can attend this meeting alone or with your partner. When mediation progresses you and your partner will attend sessions together.
